Eye Examinations.

Your Local Eye Examination Specialists

Our thorough eye examinations cost is £40 and includes advanced Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). The NHS do not fund OCT if our NHS customers would like an OCT then there is an additional charge of £15.

Eyesight to Last a Lifetime

Regular eye examinations are essential for maintaining lifelong vision and overall eye health. These checks not only assess how clearly you see but can also detect early signs of eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration—often before noticeable symptoms appear.

By identifying issues early, we can take steps to protect and preserve your sight for the future. Routine eye exams also ensure that your prescription stays up to date, helping you see clearly and comfortably every day. Investing in regular eye care is one of the best ways to support healthy vision that lasts a lifetime.

  • What is OCT?

OCT, or Optical Coherence Tomography, is a non-invasive imaging technique commonly used in eye care. It uses light waves to capture detailed cross-sectional images of tissues. In ophthalmology, it allows professionals to see beneath the surface of the retina and detect subtle changes invisible during a standard eye exam.
  • How OCT Works

Instead of using sound waves like ultrasound, OCT uses broadband infrared light. The light is split into two beams: one directed at the eye and the other used as a reference. When light reflects back from the different layers in the eye, it creates interference patterns that the device converts into high-resolution images.
  • Safe & Comfortable

OCT is entirely non-contact and doesn't involve any radiation, making it safe and comfortable for patients. The scan is performed quickly while the patient rests their chin on a support, and the machine captures the image without ever touching the eye. It’s ideal for patients of all ages and requires no recovery time.
  • Unmatched Detail

One of OCT’s greatest strengths is its ability to show distinct layers within the retina and other tissues. This layered visualization is critical for detecting diseases that affect specific parts of the eye, such as macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy, often before any symptoms arise.
  • Tracking Changes Over Time

Because OCT scans are so detailed and consistent, they’re perfect for monitoring disease progression. Healthcare professionals can compare scans taken over time to track changes, assess how well treatments are working, and make informed decisions about future care.
  • Beyond Eye Care

While OCT is best known in optometry and ophthalmology, it’s also used in other fields like cardiology, neurology, and dermatology. It even has applications outside medicine, such as in art conservation. Wherever detailed, non-invasive tissue imaging is needed, OCT is proving to be an invaluable tool.
